alocasia-baginda-dragon-scale
Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale'
Alocasia baginda originates (probably*) from the state of Sarawak, part of Malaysia on the island of Borneo, where it grows in the shady undergrowth of rainforests, preferably on limestone cliffs and slopes.

It is a small species with leaves only about 20 cm long, which are remarkably hard and thick, reminiscent of succulent leaves. Overall, they grow to about 30 cm in height and width. Several popular cultivars of A. baginda exist. 'Dragon Scale' has particularly beautiful, highly textured leaves with contrasting and sunken dark veins, giving the leaf a spectacular 3D effect. Certainly one of the most beautiful Alocasia species, and also very easy to care for.

You will receive a plant approximately 10 to 29 cm tall in a 9 cm square pot.

The true origin of this species is unknown. It was only described as a distinct species in 2011, but had been known as an ornamental plant long before that; however, its actual origin remains a mystery. The morphologically most similar species, *A. regina* and *A. reginula* , come from limestone habitats in Sarawak. It is therefore likely that *A. baginda* also originates from this region, but it has not yet been found there. Future expeditions could shed light on this.
