Most plants do not grow on these heavy metal-laden soils, as these metals are toxic to them in such high doses, and only a few adapted plants survive.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eAlocasia melo\u003c\/em\u003e is one of these species, but it does not require such soils to survive in cultivation! It grows well in normal, good substrate (e.g., our \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-leaves.de\/produkt\/aroid-mix\/\"\u003eAroid Mix\u003c\/a\u003e or \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.jungle-leaves.de\/produkt\/kokos-chips-orchideen-mix-8-16mm\/\"\u003eCoco Chips\u003c\/a\u003e).\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt only grows to about 25 cm tall and typically bears 3 to 4 leaves simultaneously. The leaves are strikingly silvery in color, very hard and leathery, and have a unique, rough texture. These resemble the skin of a cantaloupe melon (\u003cem\u003eCucumeris melo\u003c\/em\u003e var. \u003cem\u003ecantalupensis\u003c\/em\u003e), and \u003cem\u003eAlocasia melo\u003c\/em\u003e is indeed named after it! \u003cem\u003eAlocasia melo\u003c\/em\u003e grows slowly and is one of the more sensitive \u003cem\u003eAlocasia\u003c\/em\u003e species in cultivation. With a little skill, it can also be kept as a houseplant, but we would rather recommend a terrarium or a plant display case for it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eYou will receive a young plant in a 9 cm pot. These young plants usually only have 1 to 2 leaves.
