The well-known Alocasia breeder Brian Williams brought it into cultivation but couldn't find out anything more about its origin. It is believed to be a hybrid with or mutation of \u003cem\u003eAlocasia macrorrhizos\u003c\/em\u003e 'Plumbea'.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eAlocasia \u003c\/em\u003e'Yucatan Princess' remains somewhat smaller than typical \u003cem\u003eA. macrorrhizos\u003c\/em\u003e cultivars, growing \"only\" up to about 2 m tall and has highly glossy, very dark green leaves on the upper side. The underside of the leaves is also beautiful with its metallic steel-gray shimmer, interwoven with red leaf veins. The petioles of 'Yucatan Princess' are for the most part deep black, with a green pattern on the inside. One of the most spectacular Alocasias and one of our absolute favorites.
