The leaf blade is about 50 to 60 cm long and only 5 to 8 cm wide. The undersides of the leaves are covered with velvety hairs. Like all Alpinias, it grows from an underground stem (rhizome), from which so-called pseudostems emerge at regular intervals; these pseudostems actually consist solely of the very long petioles of the wrinkled leaves.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen fully grown, inflorescences bearing 9 to 20 individual flowers appear at the tips of the pseudostems. The flowers have a pink base, are white on the outside and yellow on the inside, and the lip also has a red pattern. They give off a very faint scent of freshly cut cucumber.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe individual flowers last only a few days, but the entire inflorescence blooms from the bottom up over several weeks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt grows quite quickly and is fairly hardy. Larger plants make rewarding houseplants. Young plants should initially be grown in a protected environment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou’ll receive a young plant in a 7 cm pot, approximately 10 to 15 cm tall. The young plants still have beautiful, silvery leaves.
