It resembles its close relative B. elaeagnifolia (better known as B. 'schulzei') but has significantly more flowers and grows much larger. Its leaves reach about 15 cm in length and 4 to 5 cm in width and are slightly thickened, almost succulent. Along the leaf margins, they have a row of irregular red to brown spots. It grows as a climber and can reach a height of about 1 meter. It can also be grown in a hanging configuration. Larger plants branch extensively and form dense clumps.

Their flower clusters are very unusual for begonias. The rare female flowers usually appear singly or in pairs and are quite ordinary. The male flower clusters, however, consist of dense, rounded racemes that can comprise over 70 individual flowers. Larger plants often have dozens of these flower clusters simultaneously and, under good conditions, bloom continuously. The individual flowers have a pinkish-white gradient and striking yellow stamens.

B. longipetiolata is very similar to B. squamulosa , but unlike the latter, it has more compact and differently structured inflorescences. The simplest distinguishing feature between the two species is the unopened male flowers. In B. squamulosa , these are round, while in B. longipetiolata they are flattened.

It belongs to the Tetraphila section.

[/expand]

[/porto_content_box]

You will receive a young plant in a 7cm pot.
