ficus-villosa
Ficus villosa
Ficus villosa originates from Southeast Asia and is particularly widespread on the larger islands (Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi) and can be found throughout the lowland rainforest.

This climbing fig grows strictly upright and clings closely to its substrate. It's not picky about the surface it clings to with its aerial roots. In nature, it primarily climbs trees, but it also grows on stones, wooden walls, and even on twin-wall polycarbonate sheets in our greenhouse!

It branches little or not at all and usually grows as a single stem with alternating leaves, the youngest leaves being reddish and becoming progressively darker green over time. The leaf margins and undersides are particularly hairy ("villosa" means hairy). The leaves can grow quite large, up to about 20 cm long and 15 cm wide. Because of this size, it is best suited for larger terrariums or as a houseplant.

Occasionally, you receive cuttings of very small plants that don't grow particularly quickly and remain small for a while. This is where the plant's reputation for slow growth comes from. However, our cuttings come from large, already very robust plants and are therefore considerably larger than "normal" and grow significantly faster, which is why they probably shouldn't be planted in a small terrarium.

You will receive a well-rooted and actively growing cutting in an 11 cm pot, approximately 10 to 20 cm long.
