nepenthes-x-mojito
Nepenthes × Mojito
Nepenthes × Mojito is a modern recreation of one of the oldest and most famous pitcher plant hybrids, Nepenthes × Dyeriana.

This complex hybrid of Nepenthes ( northiana × curtisii ) x ( rafflesiana × veitchii ) was bred in Victorian England and first mentioned in 1881. At that time, advances in glassmaking technology made glass greenhouses (relatively) affordable for the first time, thus beginning the hobby of cultivating newly discovered tropical plants.

Nepenthes × Mojito shares the same parent hybrids as Nepenthes × Dyeriana, making this fantastic cross available again in a modern form! Under good conditions, it produces incredibly large, vibrantly colored pitchers. The pitchers easily reach over 30 cm in length, with reports of specimens approaching 40 cm. Especially when opening, the peristome is a bright yellow with light red stripes. A few days after opening, it folds back and darkens until it finally takes on a rusty brown hue with dark stripes. The pitcher body is light with red speckles. In larger specimens, the lid of the pitcher is noticeably upturned. The first preview images show the pitchers of a (nearly) fully grown specimen.

Corresponding to the size of the pitchers, the plant that produces them is also enormous. It reaches a diameter of 60cm to 1m and begins to trail from about 50cm in diameter, which is why it should be given a trellis or other support from that point on.

Interestingly, it is not as light-hungry as other Nepenthes and can therefore be kept indoors without problems. It still needs very bright light, but cannot tolerate direct sunlight.

You will receive a strong plant approximately 20 to 30 cm in diameter in a 14 cm hanging pot with at least 2 shoots.
