Unlike the nominate form, the spathe of the inflorescence exhibits a significantly higher proportion of yellow. Furthermore, the tubers look completely different. The tubers of the 'Lake Tana' form are considerably flatter, green, and smooth on the outside, whereas the nominate form's tubers are spherical, light brown, and rough on the outside. Even the leaves differ. The petiole is usually reddish with barely visible spots, and the leaf surface is a glossy dark green.
