Description
Adelonema wallisii is an arum (Araceae) native to Panama and Colombia. It is still most often sold under the synonym Homalomena wallisii . In its natural habitat, it grows in the undergrowth of rainforests along the Atlantic coast. It has a very low growth habit, usually not exceeding 15 cm in height, but reaching diameters of over 50 cm. The oval and surprisingly tough leaves grow to about 25 to 30 cm long and 15 to 20 cm wide. Most forms exhibit a tricolored mottled pattern consisting of light, almost white spots, larger medium-green areas, and a very dark base color. New leaves are initially rolled up and very pale, only reaching their final, dark coloration after several weeks. The flowers consist of a reddish spathe and a white spadix.
It grows very slowly, but retains its very robust leaves for a very long time and requires no special care.
