Description
Afrocarpus falcatus is a tree belonging to the yew family (Podocarpaceae). Its native range is South Africa and Eswatini, where it grows in coastal forests. In the wild, it typically reaches a height of 10 to 25 meters, but exceptionally can grow up to 60 meters. It develops a straight, smooth trunk that remains unbranched even at considerable heights. The leaves of mature plants are 2 to 4 cm long and 2 to 5 mm wide. Young plants have larger leaves, up to about 12 cm.
Although not winter-hardy in our climate and therefore unsuitable for planting in the garden, this species is often used for bonsai. It is particularly well-suited for this purpose because it grows quite quickly, yet still develops a strong woody core and is easy to shape and maintain. It can also be cultivated permanently as a container plant.
You will receive a young plant measuring 10-15 cm in a 9 cm square pot.
