Description
Alocasia azlanii was only described in 2016 and originates from Brunei, where it has only been found in a single location within a nature reserve (Ladan Hills Forest Reserve in the Tutong District).
My personal favorite species!
It is a small species, growing to only about 30 cm tall, and often remaining even smaller. The leaves are up to about 20 cm long and 11 cm wide, and peltate. Their base color is a deep metallic green/blue and they are very glossy, which makes photographing them extremely difficult!
However, their true beauty lies in the metallic pink to rosy leaf veins, which are best seen when held in direct light (but please not for too long, as they don't tolerate sun!) or illuminated in the dark with a flashlight. These veins shimmer as if they were made of glitter and are more or less visible depending on the incidence of light. The leaf margin is set off from the rest of the leaf by a continuous, neon green line. From below, the leaves are purple to red.
The flowers are white and usually appear in groups of three or four, one after the other.
