Description
Anubias barteri originates from tropical West Africa, where it typically grows on rocks along riverbanks. The rhizomes anchor themselves firmly to rocks, but also penetrate the soil and sometimes grow in the silt/mud of the rivers themselves. Within its large distribution area, the species is highly variable, and six accepted varieties exist. The plant offered here is the variety 'coffeifolia'. Its exact origin is unknown. It differs significantly from other forms of this species. It has a compact growth habit with dark green leaves reminiscent of those of the coffee plant, hence the name. The pigmentation is also striking. It has reddish petioles, and the new leaves appear orange, gradually turning dark green. It grows slowly and is one of the smaller varieties of Anubias barteri . The leaves reach approximately 10 cm in length, and the petioles remain short.
It grows absolutely without problems both in the aquarium as an epiphyte and in the tropical terrarium in a permanently moist location, as long as the rhizome is planted above ground.
You will receive an almost fully grown plant in a 6cm pot.
