Artocarpus integer (cempedak tree)

The cempedak tree is a breadfruit tree (genus Artocarpus ) and a close relative of the more familiar jackfruit ( Artocarpus heterophyllus ) and durian ( Durio zibethinus ). Its taste also falls somewhere between these two more well-known fruits. The smell might deter some, but the fruit clusters, which can weigh up to 4 kg, taste exceptionally good! Due to the weight of the fruit, it must develop directly on the trunk of the tree (cauliflory). This is also known, for example, from cacao pods.

Apart from that, the Cempedak tree is also an attractive potted plant that can be kept smaller by pruning.

Originally from Southeast Asia, Cempedaks are now cultivated in all tropical countries.



You will receive a young plant, approximately 30 to 50cm tall, in a 9cm pot.
