Description
Begonia 'Black Knight' is a compact but large-leaved Begonia rex cultivar and (at least for me) also the most beautiful. In mature plants, the leaves are almost completely velvety black with a circumferential ring of white dots. Young plants and fresh leaves still have a pronounced green coloration between the dots, which disappears in larger specimens. The leaves have a slightly three-dimensional structure with a serrated edge. They are red underneath and sparsely hairy on both sides. Overall, it grows to about 30 to 40cm tall. The individual leaves reach a size of approx. 20x15cm, making them quite large. The petioles are red, short, strong and heavily hairy.
However, Begonia 'Black Knight' only reveals its full splendor in a dark room and when illuminated with a flashlight. When grown in low light, it develops a pronounced blue to purple iridescence, which is in no way inferior to the luster of the famous "peacock begonia" (Begonia pavonina).
It has large, pink to red flowers which usually appear in groups of four per flower stalk.
You will receive a strong young plant in a 9cm pot.
