Description
A very beautiful form of this popular species, it looks like a small tree. The leaves are speckled with white, the flowers are pinkish-red and hang downwards.
Begonia corallina, also known as coral begonia, originates from South America and has been cultivated for a very long time for its attractive appearance and used as a houseplant and (in warmer regions) as a garden plant. The species itself is controversial because it is unclear whether it is itself a hybrid of several species that have been crossbred by humans. Due to its long history as an ornamental plant, countless cultivars exist.
The form known as 'Tamaya' is not a separate cultivar, but simply a particular pruning technique. To create a Begonia 'Tamaya', woody stems are cut from very old, large mother plants and re-rooted. They then sprout again and resemble a small tree. A special feature is that they retain this shape for a long time, requiring no special care or pruning to maintain it.
You will receive a plant approximately 30 to 40 cm tall in a 9 cm pot. Extra thick stems!
