[expand Title=" Details about the plant "]
This tiny begonia originates from tropical West Africa, specifically northern Gabon, near the border with Equatorial Guinea. It grows epiphytically in shady, damp areas of the rainforest undergrowth. Its main habitat is at altitudes of 500 to 700 meters. The leaves are only about 1 cm long and 5 mm wide, with serrated edges. It branches extensively, eventually forming a small, compact bush. In its natural habitat, it typically grows cascading from larger branches. While the plant can grow quite large, it tolerates pruning very well in terrariums and can be kept small. Its growth habit is reminiscent of some South American species, such as Begonia foliosa , but it remains much smaller.
In bright light, the young leaves and shoot tips are red, giving it a beautiful, two-tone appearance.
It blooms with tiny, white flowers.
It belongs to the Filicibegonia section.
