Description
This small, lithophytic begonia is known from only one population, consisting of about 400 to 500 individuals, growing on a cliff on Mont des Eléphants (misspelled as "Mont de l' Elephant" on herbarium specimens) on Cameroon's coast. The IUCN classifies the species as "Critically Endangered."
The leaves are about 10 to 15cm long, 1 to 2cm wide, and astonishingly tough. The leaf veins are sunken, giving the leaf a beautiful, three-dimensional structure. The leaves are pendulous and somewhat resemble a tiny Anthurium. They shimmer velvety.
This species grows comparatively very slowly.
It blooms with bright yellow flowers. In strong light, the flowers also show orange stripes.
It belongs to the section Scutobegonia.
You will receive a young plant in a 5cm pot.
