Begonia polilloensis originates from Polillo Island, which lies near the larger and better-known Philippine island of Luzon. This unusual begonia is named after Polillo Island. It grows to about 30 cm tall and branches profusely with initially prostrate, then upright stems, forming loose, small bushes. Its leaves are so deeply lobed that they are considered palmate, with 5 or 6 (usually 5) leaflets. The individual leaflets are themselves deeply lobed with serrated edges. The upper surface of the leaves has a few conspicuous hairs. The undersides of the leaves and the petioles are orange to red. Especially in low light, the upper leaf surface is a beautiful olive green. When growing in bright light, the color tends more towards light green to yellowish.
The male flowers are white, the female flowers are pink.
It belongs to the Petermannia section.
