This begonia (probably) originates from northwestern Borneo (Sarawak), in the vicinity of Nanga Delok. Several quite similar-looking begonias from this region are circulating, all offered as Begonia sp. 'Delok'. This unfortunately makes it quite difficult to keep track of them all. For example, there are some large-leaved forms that are now also offered as Begonia aff. aiensis . The form offered here is quite similar to these in pattern but differs significantly in growth. Our "Deloks" remain small (approximately 10 to 15 cm in total height), have stiff leaves with a dark base color and light green to white elongated spots (and no continuous stripes!), and green flowers. Even in fairly bright light, they display a dark blue, almost purple iridescence.
The compact, dense growth, along with its beautiful pattern and iridescence, makes this species an absolute highlight in the terrarium.
We believe this is a separate, new species and not a form of Begonia aiensis .
It probably belongs to the Petermannia section.
