This begonia originates from the tropical west coast of Africa, specifically from southern Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. In its natural habitat, it grows on damp, moss-covered stones in the shade of coastal rainforests. It has uniformly green leaves that are strongly bullate and hairy on both sides. The hairs on the upper surface of the leaves are transparent, while those on the underside are reddish. The leaves grow to approximately 12 cm long and 6 to 8 cm wide. The plants offered here are indeed Begonia staudtii and not the similar Begonia microsperma , or a hybrid of the two.
Compared to *B. microsperma* , *B. staudtii* has smaller, uniformly green, and non-glossy leaves with green undersides. *B. microsperma* has less pronounced leaf structures but a reddish tinge, which is completely absent in *B. staudtii *. The two species are not synonyms.
The flowers of B. staudtii are about 2cm in size and bright yellow, sometimes with a reddish edge.
It belongs to the section Loasibegonia .
