Description
The lantern flower ( Ceropegia woodii ) from the dogbane family (Apocynaceae) is a succulent climbing plant and originally comes from South Africa and Zimbabwe, where it often grows on cliffs and slopes in the bushland.
The small, heart-shaped leaves are marked with white patterns designed to reflect the harsh sun. It blooms with small, lilac, and very strangely shaped flowers that resemble a chandelier, hence its name.
This variegated ('Variegata') form produces leaves with white margins, which can also turn pink or rose-colored in bright light. It also has pink flowers, instead of the more white flowers of the wild type. It is also known as "VSOH," which stands for "Variegated String Of Hearts."
