Description
The Ceylon cinnamon tree, or true cinnamon tree, belongs to the laurel family (Lauraceae) and originates from Sri Lanka. Its bark is the source of the well-known spice, cinnamon. The bark is usually harvested not from the main trunk but from thin branches, which causes less damage to the plant and allows for repeated harvesting.
The true cinnamon tree can grow up to 20 meters tall, but in cultivation, the trees are pruned to a height of approximately 3 to 4 meters, allowing branches and limbs to develop at a height of 1 to 2 meters, from which the bark can then be easily harvested. The trunk diameter can reach up to 60 cm. As with many tropical trees, the new leaves are produced simultaneously in flushes and are initially red.
You will receive a young plant, approximately 10cm tall, in a 7cm pot. With proper care, a small amount of bark can be harvested from these plants for the first time in about 3 to 4 years.
