Description
Ctenanthe burle-marxii originates from the state of Espírito Santo on the southeastern coast of Brazil. The wild form grows to a height of approximately 20 to 50 centimeters. The beautiful cultivar 'Amagris', which we offer here, remains even more compact at only about 20 to 30 cm tall, making it one of the smallest members of the Marantaceae family in cultivation. 'Amagris' has mostly light, pastel green upper leaf surfaces with only very fine, dark green veins. The undersides of the leaves are violet. It grows from an underground rhizome, which serves as a water and nutrient reservoir. The flowers are white and rather small and inconspicuous.
Arrowroot plants are also called "prayer plants" in English because of the way their leaves move; at night, they fold them upwards like hands in prayer. Generally, the leaves of Marantaceae move relatively quickly and frequently, so these movements (which almost all plants exhibit) are much more noticeable in Marantaceae. This makes them appear truly alive!
You will receive one plant in a 14cm round pot. Plant height approx. 20-30 cm.
