Description
Cryptostachys renda , also called "sealing wax palm", comes from Malesia and owes its name to the striking, bright red leaf stalks (just like red sealing wax).
In its natural habitat, it grows to about 15 meters tall, making it one of the smaller palm species. In cultivation, it reaches heights of 2 to 4 meters. It grows relatively slowly, taking 2 to 3 years to develop its first red leaf stalks. Until then, they resemble the commonly available parlor palm ( Chamaedorea elegans ).
The leaves themselves, typical of palms, are divided and grow up to 1 meter long. Even in mature specimens, the trunks are thin (approx. 6-10 cm) and upright.
The sealing wax palm is tropical and does not tolerate cool temperatures.
You will receive a young plant with 1 to 2 leaves, in a 7cm pot. See pictures 2 & 3 in the gallery.
