Description
The currently accepted scientific name for this plant is actually Micranthemum callitrichoides. However, in the trade, the plant is more commonly known by the outdated synonym Hemianthus callitrichoides , even though the genus Hemianthus has not existed since the revision by Fischer et al. in 2013 .
It originates from the West Indies, primarily the Bahamas, Hispaniola, and Jamaica, and belongs to the Linderniaceae family. It forms very dense, flat mats with rounded leaves that are approximately 4-5 mm in size on land and 2-3 mm in size underwater. This plant can be cultivated both in aquariums (submerged) and in humid terrariums (emersed). In nature, it grows on riverbanks, on rocks, and in gravel beds, and is usually emersed. During the rainy season, it is submerged for several months. When cultivated underwater, it requires plenty of light and supplemental CO2 for good, compact growth. On land, it grows easily and forms even denser mats than when submerged.
You will receive a strong plant in a 6 cm pot.
