Description
Philodendron heterocraspedon originates from the area around Buenaventura, a city in the Colombian department of Valle del Cauca, in the southwest of the country. Typical for Philodendron, it is a hemiepiphyte that starts growing on the ground and then climbs a nearby tree. In nature, it can grow up to 2.5 meters tall.
The leaves grow to about 80 cm long but only about 10 to 15 cm wide and are carried pendulously (especially on larger, climbing plants). The leaf is semi-glossy to velvety, dark green. Also striking are the sunken leaf veins, which give the leaf a ribbed appearance. The midrib is prominent and brightly colored. This makes them resemble the leaves of Philodendron patriciae or Anthurium veitchii. One of the most beautiful of all Philodendrons, in my opinion.
The leaves are carried on very long petioles, widely spread out, and on mature plants, they form a kind of crown near the top, while the stem remains rather bare.
You will receive a strong, rooted cutting in a 17cm pot, about 50 cm tall with 3 to 4 large leaves. The ideal size to offer a climbing aid now so that the plant can start to climb!
