Description
Philodendron melanochrysum is a species of Philodendron native to northern Colombia. It grows as a hemiepiphytic climber in the rainforests there at altitudes of approximately 300 to 1000 m. The species name means "black gold" and refers to the dark, very velvety, glossy leaves. These can grow to about 80 cm long and 40 cm wide.
With proper care, P. melanochrysum grows exceptionally fast and forms huge leaves in a short time. Of all the "velvet-leaved" Philodendron, it is probably the easiest to care for.
