Piper betle 'Bright Eyes'

Betel leaves have a wide range of uses; one of the best-known is the mixture with the nuts of the betel palm ( Areca catechu ) and slaked lime known as betel chews (Sirih-Pinang). These are used as a stimulant and intoxicant and follow a very old tradition. The leaves are also used in their pure form as a stimulant, analgesic, antiseptic, or in Ayurvedic medicine.

The 'Bright Eyes' variety is distinguished by its highly decorative, glossy green leaves, which feature a contrasting yellow spot in the center of the leaf, at the junction of the leaf blade and petiole. The yellow variegation also extends slightly along the veins in the upper part of the leaf blade. Young plants initially have delicate, thin, and long stems that straighten and stiffen over time.

You will receive a strong young plant in a 9 cm square pot. Approximately 10-20 cm long.

Please note: Piper species are very sensitive to temperature. The plants will only be shipped again in styrofoam boxes with heat packs once nighttime temperatures are consistently between 12 and 15 °C. This may not be until the end of February or even March. Until then, paid plants will remain in our greenhouse and are reserved for you. Orders containing Piper species will NOT be split into partial shipments.
