Piper retrofractum 'variegata'

Also known as Java long pepper, this type of pepper is also used for seasoning. It originates from Southeast Asia and is widespread there. Although this plant can grow quite large and robust, our plants always have small, heart-shaped leaves (2 to 4 cm) and a graceful growth habit. Perhaps this is a particularly dwarf variety, or it lacks the "signal" to switch to larger growth. This makes them very well suited for terrariums. They climb and form dense, branching mats.

The plants offered here occasionally produce variegated shoots, which develop leaves with a contrasting white pattern. Normally, however, the leaves are a uniform dark green.

Strong young plant in a 9 cm square pot. Approx. 20-30 cm long.



Please note: Piper species are very sensitive to temperature. The plants will only be shipped again in styrofoam boxes with heat packs once nighttime temperatures are consistently between 12 and 15 °C. This may not be until the end of February or even March. Until then, paid plants will remain in our greenhouse and are reserved for you. Orders containing Piper species will NOT be split into partial shipments.
