Piper sp. 'Laos'

This as yet unidentified or undescribed species originates from northern Laos. It is a true dwarf among ornamental peppers. The leaves only grow to about 6 cm long and 3 to 4 cm wide. The entire upper surface of the leaf, except for the veins, is covered with extremely fine, pinkish, glittering dots, which become more silvery in older leaves and under bright light.

It grows extremely slowly. Of all our Piper varieties, it is by far the slowest, but also one of the most beautiful. Unlike most other Pipers, we wouldn't recommend it as a houseplant. It's better suited to a tropical terrarium or a display case. Definitely a plant for enthusiasts and collectors.

Most of the plants we grow have silver leaves instead of pink, because we grow them under bright light to make them grow a bit faster. Under typical terrarium lighting, however, the new leaves will turn pink again!

You will receive a young plant with 3 to 5 leaves in a 9 cm pot.



Please note: Piper species are very sensitive to temperature. The plants will only be shipped again in styrofoam boxes with heat packs once nighttime temperatures are consistently between 12 and 15 °C. This may not be until the end of February or even March. Until then, paid plants will remain in our greenhouse and are reserved for you. Orders containing Piper species will NOT be split into partial shipments.
