Description
The leather fern or leatherleaf fern , Rumohra adiantiformis, is originally from South America but is now pantropical. In its long botanical history, it has been placed in many different genera and is sometimes still offered under these old names, e.g., Aspidium adiantiforme , Dryopteris adiantiforme , or Polypodium adiantiforme .
The tough, leathery fronds (hence the name) grow to about 50 cm long, and the entire plant reaches a maximum diameter of 90 cm. There are many different cultivars of this popular species. The variegated form offered here has two-toned fronds with dark green margins and light green to yellow centers. Its beautiful contrast makes it an instant eye-catcher. Well-suited for a windowsill or medium to large terrariums.
