Description
The small-eared floating fern ( Salvinia auriculata ) originates from a very large distribution area, stretching from southern Mexico across Central and South America to northern Argentina. Within this vast region, there are several very closely related floating ferns that can only be distinguished microscopically and are grouped together under the aggregate (agg.) Salvinia auriculata .
Salvinia auriculata grows on the surface of still or slow-flowing waters, forming dense carpets of round, floating leaves approximately 1 to 3 cm in diameter. The fern grows as a floating rhizome with three leaves per node. Two of the leaves are densely hairy floating leaves, while the third leaf is split into fine threads and hangs downwards. It thus takes on the role of roots, which the fern lacks.
Instructions for in-vitro plants: These plants are supplied in sterile cups containing a sterile nutrient solution and are intended for immediate use. Plants in in-vitro cups cannot be stored for long periods. Therefore, please open and plant them immediately upon receipt. To do this, thoroughly rinse the nutrient solution under running water. Divide the plants from the cup into portions of the desired size and plant them. When using them as terrarium plants, keep them very moist initially and pay attention to hygiene (avoid mold, etc., in the terrarium). Opened in-vitro plants are non-returnable.
You will receive one portion in a 6cm in-vitro cup.
