[expand Title=" Details about the plant "]
In a revision by Zhou and Zang (2023), the large and highly diverse genus Selaginella was split into several genera. According to this revision, the new name for this plant is now Chuselaginella grandis . We will continue to use the old name for the time being, until the new names are confirmed by other authors.
Selaginella grandis originates from the northwest of Borneo, specifically the Malaysian state of Sarawak. There, it grows in very shady, humid habitats in riverine forests, near small streams and rivers. It grows as a branching rhizome that creeps across the ground and over rocks, forming upright stems that branch dichotomously multiple times, creating umbrella-like structures. The emerging stems resemble shepherd's crooks. The name " grandis " already suggests that this is a large species. Individual stems reach 50 to 60 cm in height (in our region), but there are also reports of plants up to 80 cm tall. The umbrellas reach a diameter of 20 to 30 cm. The microphylls are also very large for a moss fern and partially overlap, forming an almost closed surface. In mature plants, the spore-bearing strobili develop at the very tips of the last branches. All parts of the adult plants are surprisingly hard and therefore even brittle.
A fully grown Selaginella grandis is a truly spectacular sight. It is certainly one of the most impressive moss ferns.
This species unfortunately grows very slowly. New stems, from the first appearance of a new trunk to full development, take 2 to 3 months for larger plants. Therefore, we offer them as quite small plants that don't necessarily look like the mature ones yet.

You will receive a young plant in a 7cm pot, approximately 10cm tall.
Please note: The small twigs of this type break very easily. Even with very good packaging, some pieces will likely break off after shipping. Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented, but it doesn't significantly harm the plant. Such damage is not grounds for a complaint.
