This Selaginella originates from the southern Malay Peninsula (Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand). It grows as a ground cover but reaches a relatively tall height. The individual stems can grow to about 5 to 10 cm and branch out at the top into a small, symmetrical "crown." The rhizome grows along the ground, producing new stems at short intervals. The leaves of this form are dark brown to black, with cream-colored growth tips. However, the plant only develops this coloration under the right conditions! It only occurs with low light and good nutrient supply. In bright light or nutrient deficiency, the coloration tends to be a simple green.
In the past, we sold this Selaginella under the name S. intermedia 'Black Form'. However, it has turned out that this is likely a different, closely related, but more creeping species and not the upright-growing S. intermedia . The genuine, upright-growing S. intermedia, also in a dark form, is now available HERE .

You will receive a well-rooted cutting in a 7cm pot.
Please note: The small twigs of this species break very easily. Even with very good packaging, some pieces will likely break off after shipping. Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented, but it doesn't significantly harm the plant. After an acclimatization period, this species continues to grow quite quickly. Such damage is not grounds for a complaint.
