Description
Ferns of the genera Vittaria and Haplopteris are also known as "shoestring ferns." They have very long, thin leaves and grow as epiphytes (air plants) on trees or lithophytes (lithophytes) on rocks. The leaves then hang down like a bundle of shoelaces. The currently accepted name for this particular shoestring fern is Haplopteris flexuosa , although the older name Vittaria flexuosa is still in use.
It is widespread in Southeast and East Asia, from India and Thailand through China to Japan. It tolerates cooler temperatures well, but not frost. The fronds of H. flexuosa, at around 50 cm, are not quite as long as those of its close relatives (which can reach over 1.5 meters), but this makes it all the more attractive for terrariums. It is easy to care for in a terrarium and looks fantastic, especially on the back wall or on a large branch.
You will receive a rooted section of our mother plant in a 7cm pot with approximately 10cm long fronds.
