Description
Adelonema pallidinervium is a small arum lily (Araceae) from Ecuador. It was only described as a new species in 2016 by Wong, Meerow, and Croat . In the same paper, the genus Adelonema was (re)introduced. Adelonema are very similar to Homalomena , but they occur in South America instead of Southeast Asia. They are more closely related to Philodendron than to Homalomena , as demonstrated in this paper using molecular biological methods. All South American Homalomena have since been classified in the genus Adelonema .
Adelonema pallidinvervium is one of the smallest Adelonema species . The leaves grow to about 15-20 cm long and 9-12 cm wide. The species name refers to the striking white midrib of the leaf. The rest of the leaf is velvety green. The petioles are finely hairy and fuzzy. It has an underground stem that grows about 10 cm deep into the soil and then produces lateral runners. These emerge from the ground relatively close to the parent plant and form new offshoots, creating small, dense stands of plants.
Adelonema thrives best in a humid, warm terrarium and prefers a humidity level of 60% or higher. Those who can provide these conditions indoors can also care for it as a relatively easy-to-grow houseplant.
You will receive a large, strong plant in a 12cm pot, approximately 20cm tall.
