Description
Alocasia chaii originates from Sarawak, Borneo (Malaysia).
It is a small species, growing to only about 40 cm in height, but usually remaining even smaller. The leaves grow to about 25 cm long and 15 cm wide. The petiole attaches near the center of the leaf (peltate), and the leaves are exceptionally hard and robust. They have a uniform silvery-white color with subtly highlighted veins. From underneath, the leaves are light green with prominent red glands on the leaf veins.
The petioles are green with fine red dots and are very finely hairy. The mature, pink inflorescences with orange berries are also particularly beautiful.
The true Alocasia chaii is practically unavailable commercially. Most offerings for A. chaii are other species, which is why an image search yields many different-looking plants. However, our plants are indeed A. chaii and conform to the species description and also to the few images from nature that exist of the species.
You will receive a young plant, approx. 10 to 15 cm tall in a 9 cm pot.
