Description
Alocasia sanderiana originates from the Philippine island of Mindanao.
In nature, it is highly variable in its leaf shape and markings. A good overview of the species' variability on Mindanao can be seen here (link) .
The form offered here is also called 'Nobilis', which sounds scientific or Latin but is only a trade name and not a subspecies, form or anything similar.
This very attractive form has strikingly wavy, pinnately lobed leaves with a dark green, almost bluish color and prominent, very light green, raised veins. This form, typical for A. sanderiana, has only four pairs of main veins. However, what is atypical for the species is the presence of up to four or five leaves at the same time. Normally, most forms in nature only have one or two leaves simultaneously.
This is a rather small Alocasia , reaching a height of 60-80 cm. Like other Philippine species, it goes through a dormant period after flowering, usually during the winter in our climate.
You will receive a strong plant, approximately 25 to 40 cm tall in an 11 or 12 cm pot.
