Description
Begonia brevirimosa This is a large, stem-forming begonia with vibrant pink leaves. It is one of the few reed begonias that thrive in bright light and is therefore suitable for brighter locations with some direct sunlight. However, direct midday or afternoon sun is too intense for it. It has leaves up to 35 cm long and can reach a height of about 1.5 m (without support). In its natural habitat, it grows at altitudes of up to 1500 m on sun-exposed mountain slopes in northern New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago. There, it can reach a height of up to 2 m and loses most of its leaves in winter (i.e., during the dry season). The leaves are predominantly a very vibrant pink, with only the veins being green to black. It achieves its best coloration in very bright, warm conditions. It produces pink to rose-colored flowers.
From Begonia brevirimosa There are two subspecies. The subspecies exotica It has continuous pink stripes and almost the entire leaf is pink; the nominate form ( Begonia brevirimosa ssp. brevirimosa ) has more elongated dots than stripes.
It belongs within the genus Begonia to the section Petermannia .
You will receive a young plant in a 9 cm pot, approximately 15 to 20 cm tall (see 2nd and 3rd picture).
