Bulbophyllum falcatum var. velutinum 'Mini'

A miniature form of Bulbophyllum falcatum, which grows to only about a third of the size of the standard form. It is said to be the 'velutinum' variety. However, we are not 100% sure about this. It could also be a different, but closely related species. Be that as it may, it is a small, small-flowered orchid with an interesting and unusual inflorescence - ideal for terrariums, small and large display cases.

Bulbophyllum falcatum grows epiphytically in the lowland rainforests of West Africa. In the 'mini' form, the small flowers that appear on both sides along the flattened inflorescence are red instead of yellow. The inflorescence stalk itself is green and slightly wavy instead of red and smooth as in the "large" Bulbophyllum falcatum.
