Description
Bulbophyllum romyi originates from Southeast Asia and is found only on Mindanao (Philippines). It grows epiphytically on larger trees. Its habitat is consistently warm, with high humidity and moderate light. The leaves are approximately 8 to 12 cm long and 3 to 6 cm wide. It grows as a compact plant and does not develop long rhizomes between the pseudobulbs.
The flowers appear singly, usually from late summer into autumn, and have a yellow base color with very dense red spots and tiny, pink, glandular "lobes" along the edges of the lateral petals and on the dorsal petal. The lower petals are elongated, reaching up to about 15 cm in length. The flowers only last about 5 to 10 days, but last longer in high humidity. They have an unpleasant, but faint, odor.
Bulbophyllum romyi is very similar to Bulbophyllum fascinator , but has larger " lobes " and a generally larger flower with a slightly higher proportion of yellow than B. fascinator .
It can certainly be kept as a houseplant, but then it's better potted than tied up.
You will receive a flowering, mounted plant.
