Description
Calathea lietzei , which according to current taxonomy is actually called Goeppertia lietzei , originates from Brazil. Its small distribution area is along the coast. There, it grows in the forest undergrowth in shady spots, emerging from an underground rhizome that serves as a water and nutrient reservoir. It reaches a height of about 70 cm. The elongated leaves, with alternating light and dark stripes, can grow to 30 cm long and 15 cm wide, and in exceptional cases and under very favorable conditions, even larger!
The 'Yellow Fusion' cultivar displays a beautiful, striped, yellow variegation which can also turn slightly pink in bright light.
Arrowroot plants are also called "prayer plants" in English because of the way their leaves move; at night, they fold them upwards like hands in prayer. Generally, the leaves of Marantaceae move relatively quickly and frequently, so these movements (which almost all plants exhibit) are much more noticeable in Marantaceae. This makes them appear truly alive!
You will receive a strong plant in a 10.5cm pot.
