Description
This attractive member of the spiral ginger genus ( Costus ) originates from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and northern Brazil. The variety offered here has matte, dark green to gray leaves on the upper surface. The undersides are deep red. The individual leaves grow to approximately 20 cm long and 10 cm wide. It is thus strongly reminiscent of Syngonium erythrophyllum and Piper sp. 'Red Arrow' .
Costus erythrophyllus grows to about 1 meter tall and, as is typical for spiral ginger, has twisted stems, which makes the leaves appear spirally arranged. New stems are formed via an underground rhizome.
The flowers are typical for ginger plants, about 3 to 5cm in size and pink with white stripes.
You will receive a plant approximately 40 to 50cm tall with several stems in a 12cm pot.
