Drimys aromatica 'Red Spice' (Tasmanian mountain pepper)

Tasmanian mountain pepper ( Drimys aromatica ; syn.: Drimys lanceolata , Tasmannia lanceolata ) is an evergreen shrub native to southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It belongs to the little-known family Winteraceae and thus not to the pepper family (Piperaceae), as its name might suggest. It gets its name from its leathery, extremely spicy, aromatic leaves. When crushed, the leaves release a pungent fragrance and have a strong peppery flavor, which is why they were used as a pepper substitute during the colonial era. The leaves are said to be excellent for seasoning curries, cheese dishes, and grilled meats. The black berries can also be dried and have a fruity-sweet taste with a slightly spicy aftertaste.

The 'Red Spice' variety is characterized by a particularly strong red coloration of the stems.

You will receive a bushy plant in a 17cm round pot, approximately 20 to 30cm tall.
