Description
This small sundew, as its name suggests, originates from Madagascar, among other places. However, it is not endemic there, but is found throughout Africa south of the Sahara in permanently humid, sometimes flooded habitats.
This is a stem-forming Drosera species. It initially grows upright to about 10 cm tall, after which the stem bends to the side under its own weight. The numerous, tiny leaves are spatula- to spoon-shaped and covered with glandular hairs. In bright light, the leaves turn a deep red. Due to its unusual, upright form, this sundew appears very exotic, yet it is easy to care for.
Despite its manageable size , Drosera madagascariensis is one of the best fungus gnat traps of all the Drosera species I know. However, it cannot effectively catch larger pests; even a housefly is too big.
You will receive a young plant in a 5.5cm pot.
