Description
This small sundew is one of three Drosera species from the state of Queensland (Australia) known as the "Queensland Sisters". The other two species in the trio are Drosera adelae and Drosera schizandra . They are closely related and distinguished by requiring less light than other sundews.
Of the three , Drosera prolifera is the smallest species. With a maximum diameter of only about 8 cm, and usually even smaller, it is ideally suited for small terrariums, planting containers, and arrangements with other carnivorous plants. In bright light, the leaves turn reddish.
Despite its modest size , Drosera prolifera is one of the best flycatchers of all Drosera species I know. It easily catches even larger pests.
It reproduces via its flower stalks, which droop after flowering and form new plants upon contact with the ground.
