Description
You either love it or you hate it. Durian is certainly the most polarizing of all tropical fruits. Its taste is very difficult to describe; it's sweet yet intense, with notes of fruit, walnut, vanilla, but also onion and cheese. Some find the smell alone repulsive, while others love it. You have to eat (or smell) durian to know if you like it or not.
The extremely complex flavor, especially given the different varieties, has led to durian tastings in its countries of origin, similar to wine tastings, which attract enthusiasts from all over the world. It is therefore also known as the "king of fruits".
Fresh durian is almost never available in Europe, and if it is, it's usually only by special order as an import via very expensive air freight. It's mostly only available frozen, which severely impairs its taste and smell.
The durian tree is native to Borneo and Sumatra. It can grow up to 40 meters tall. Trees cultivated on plantations remain significantly smaller, reaching a maximum height of about 10 meters, but usually only 5 meters.
You will receive a young plant, approximately 30 to 50cm tall, in an 11cm pot.
