This tropical primrose (Primulaceae) originates from the Indonesian province of Jambi on the island of Sumatra. It has elongated, variegated leaves and grows in a sprawling or creeping habit. Emblemantha urnulata exhibits considerable variability in leaf coloration. Almost every form exists, from specimens with nearly pure green leaves to highly variegated plants with green, brown, pink, and yellow patterned leaves. This particular form develops brown, velvety leaves with green veins in low light and green leaves with intensely pink veins and even a subtle net-like pattern in bright light! It is called 'Super Pink' because of this vibrant coloration under high light. Our plants are grown under lower light conditions and are therefore more brownish with velvety, shimmering leaves, but they can develop the pink coloration at any time if kept in brighter light.

Like most tropical Primulaceae, it grows rather slowly, although somewhat faster than many Labisia and Ardisia species . It has a sprawling, creeping growth habit and rarely exceeds 10 cm in height. Therefore, the rubbery stems should not be supported but allowed to creep along the ground, where they will then form roots and branch out.
