Description
Ficus pumila , the creeping fig, originates from Southeast Asia, but has since been introduced to tropical regions worldwide and has become an invasive species there.
The creeping fig grows very quickly and densely, both as a ground cover and as a climbing plant. It is not particular about the substrate to which it attaches itself with its aerial roots. In nature, it primarily climbs trees, but it also grows on stones, wooden walls, and even on twin-wall polycarbonate sheets in our greenhouse!
It also branches out extensively, forming dense mats. Because of these characteristics, it's a popular terrarium plant for those who want a quickly lush green background or densely covered substrate. However, in small terrariums, it can quickly become overgrown and must be kept under control through regular pruning.
The variety offered here has white variegation along the leaf margins. The variegation is more pronounced when the plants grow in bright light. If they grow in the shade, the variegation is less pronounced.
