Ficus punctata (Ficus sp. 'Panama')

This small, climbing or ground-covering ficus originates from Malesia and is ideally suited for terrariums. The juvenile leaves are asymmetrical, approximately 1 cm wide and 2 cm long. They are dark green and hairy along the edges. In terrariums, this ficus will always produce only juvenile leaves, but in the wild, it can transition to its adult stage after climbing several meters. The adult leaves are much larger, oval, and have a very fine dotted pattern on the underside. Mature plants produce large, orange fruits.

In rare cases, even juvenile plants can produce fruit, which looks quite amusing due to the size difference (2cm leaves and 15cm fruit). Here's an example.

This ficus grows somewhat slower than many other small, ground-covering species and also takes a little longer to establish itself.
